Intelligence – the Internalisation of Adaptation
Departure from Biology
by André Hopper,
published by Stegotus Publishing

Jean Piaget developed and used the biological concept of adaptation to both define and describe the very nature of human intelligence. This much misunderstood theoretical model of intelligence was indeed used to great effect by Piaget, though it still has its short-comings. In this book, I assert how intelligence, and in particular – the stages of sensorimotor development – can be more profitably seen as the internalisation of adaptation. In other words, the first major part in the overall qualitative development of intelligence can be viewed in terms of causal relations which are themselves internalised. And once this happens, intelligence then leaves the province of biology because its own system of causal relations supersedes those of biology. With true intelligence, biology is surpassed.
